beamME + Twitter: Uniquely Powerful Networking.
- beam your information directly from beamME to Twitter @userIDs
- recipients must follow you to receive your card
- your information stays private
- you must setup Twitter connectivity first in Account Preferences
How It Works
After clicking on beam, we automatically send a request to your new contact inside Twitter. If they are already your follower, we send them a DM with a private URL where they can download your vCard (and details).
If they are not following you, we send them an @ message and first ask them to follow you to retrieve your card. This is done to protect your privacy, and ensure that unauthorized people cannot access your contact details.
Remember
You must first configure Twitter in Account Preferences in beamME before this will work.
About beamME, Twitter, DMs and Privacy:
One of the biggest decisions in architecting this oft-requested feature was privacy: do we allow you to make your vCard “public” to conform with the regular Twitter orientation, or do we keep your information private. Overwhelmingly, our users told us that privacy is important, so we opted to integrate Twitter and beamME in a way that would preserve the sanctity of your personal information.
In order to prevent exposure of your card on the public timeline, we need to be able to DM (Direct Message) your intended target. DMs can only be seen by the two parties involved – much like email (though we can’t vouch for Twitter’s security or reliability). DMs require that the recipient be following the sender, so we first send an @ message requesting that the recipient follow (if they’re not already). Once a DM channel has been established, we send a URL (with an expiry date) that includes a link to download your vCard. In this way, we maximize the security of your data – and also create a logical follower connection once an in-person meeting has occurred.
Of course, either party may unfollow after the beaming exchange has taken place (or opt not to follow up front), but that’s up to you.
We also don’t send additional @ or D messages without your explicit approval. We don’t auto-follow, and we don’t send marketing messages to your recipients on Twitter.
Remember
We never share your contact information with anyone unless you ask us to. Read our privacy policy for more information, or contact us if you have questions.
